Principal & Whale Class Teacher (4-5 yr olds)
Shirley and her family re-loacted to Kenton from PE in 2005. She started out at Bushken as a committee member mother while her twins attended the school. In 2006 she was appointed as the Dolphin class teacher. She has also since then been the Starfish teacher and now is currently the Whale class teacher. She has a Diploma in Early Childhood Development, Foundation phase.
Shirley has an absolute love of teaching young children and her passion is to make sure that each individual child gets a solid and sound foundation education on which they can build their scholastic career to allow them to reach their full potential and to become adults we can be proud of.
Teacher in the Dolphin Class upto December 2016 (3-4 yr olds)
Kaitlyn has lived in Kenton for 14 years and started working at Bushken in 2010 as a temporary fill in teaching assistant and has never left!
Kaitlyn has a Diploma in Early Childhood Development and is currently doing a B-Ed degree in Foundation Phase through Unisa.
Kaitlyn loves teaching as she finds the before and after effects of teaching so rewarding.
Kaitlyn quotes:I love the enthusiasm, innocence and interest with which young children learn
Kaitlyn is taking a Mommy break, and is having a baby at the End of February 2017 – She will be sorely missed.
Teacher in the Dolphin Class From 2017 (3-4 yr olds)
Paula is a mom of two whose passion is the tiny tots! Paula has endless patience and a calming and warm manner.
Paula has a Diploma in Early Childhood Development and has worked at a pre-primary school in Sedgefield in the Western Cape and at Alexandria Christian Academy.
Paula has been teaching at Bushken since 2012. She was our Starfish Teacher untill December 2016 and has since moved up to the Dolphin Class.
Teacher in the Starfish Class (2-3 yr olds)
Ibtisaam obtained her NQF Level 4 in Early Childhood Development and has previously taught in Utenhage where she was born and raised. She is also actively involved in Charity work with NPO Cupcakes of Hope (For Children Affected by Cancer) , where she hosts and coordinates the annual event in PE.
She has also worked as the Halaal Chef at 43 Air School, but being a chef wasn’t where her passion lied.
Ibti joined us in July 2016 as the Seahorse Teacher when we put up the new classroom for the 2year olds and has sinced moved up to the Starfish Class. She believes “We may all be different, but in this class we all swim together.”
Assistant in the Starfish and Seahorse Classses (2 & 3 yr olds)
Marilize Bakkes, a mother of two little ones, acquired her National Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacturing, and worked as a goldsmith for 7 years. She also studied at Stellenbosch university which entailed doing Xhosa, Psychology, and History of Art.
Marilize has a passion for children and art! She is in charge of arts and crafts in the Starfish and Seahorse classes, and encourages the children to express their creativity.
I regard it as very important to realize that everything goes in art, i.e. no absolute right or wrong, to positively influence the child.
We also have 2 very important helpers:
Linda Khani who has been with Bushken since 2004
Koleka Njokweni who started in 2013.
They both assist our teachers on a daily basis.
